Durango Recycling Center to Remain Shut for Maintenance

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Durango Recycling Center will remain closed for most of February, due to maintenance works on its materials baler.

According to Joey Medina, Operations Manager, Durango Public Works, the Recycling Center will be closed with effect from today. The closure will last until 23rd or 24th of this month, depending on the progress of the maintenance works. Denver-based Ultimate Specialties has been hired to perform the maintenance works.

Medina noted that balers need to be realigned once in every five to seven years. The current baler has been functioning since 2012. A partial realignment was carried out almost six years back. The baler is currently due for total refurbishment. The closure will not cause interruption to trash and recycling collection services, Medina said.

The materials collected from designated routes will be brought to the recycling center and put into roll off dumpsters, which will be transported to the Crouch Mesa, New Mexico waste management processing facility, where they will be processed and shipped to another processing facility.

The City will ensure that recyclable materials won’t get dumped in landfills, while the center is down for baler maintenance. All the materials will be recycled and processed at the facility, it noted.
