McLean County Waste Transfer Center Proposal Headed to Full County Board

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The application submitted by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) to build a new waste transfer center in McLean County is headed to the full county board. The board will vote the proposal on 15th February. Further to this, LRS would require final approval from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and other necessary local building permits.

It must be noted that the McLean County Pollution Control Site Hearing Committee had voted Monday in favour of the south Bloomington facility after adding certain conditions. The conditions pertain to responsibility of landscape maintenance and ownership of new road for the facility. The proposal had witnessed a series of hearings prior to that. The original application was submitted to the County in August last year.

LRS had forwarded the application for the facility, citing that there is a shortage of facility for processing municipal waste. Currently, McLean County has only one waste transfer center, which is owned by Republic Services. The new waste transfer center will have capacity to accept up to 400 tons of municipal solid waste per day.

A few residents who live in close vicinity to the proposed site had opposed the facility citing increased traffic and possible pollution due to waste.
