Recology Announced Opening of New MRF in Santa Rosa, California

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Recology will open its new material recovery facility (MRF) in Santa Rosa, California on 29th January, 2024. The MRF was built at an investment of nearly $35 million. The 85,000 square foot facility was built in almost 10 months.

The state-of-the-art facility features several modern technologies, including seven optical sorters that uses infrared light and air nozzles, which in turn will help Recology to shift the industry from traditional waste management to resource recovery by significantly reducing contaminations. The facility includes 109 conveyor belts, the combined length of which will be around 1.58 miles.

The new MRF will collect and process mixed recyclables from as many as 13 different communities in Sonoma and Marin counties in California. The company foresees a recovery rate of 85% for the facility, significantly higher when compared with the 75% rate of the previous facility. The projected processing capacity of the facility is 400 tons per day, which is almost three times the capacity of 150 tons per day of the previous facility.

Recology had collaborated with Machinex, who helped them to design, fabricate and install the system. The system ensures that the collected recyclable materials have multiple opportunities to get separated and recycled.
