The City of Houston had collaborated with ExxonMobil, LyondellBasell, Cyclyx International and FCC Environmental Services to form the Houston Recycling Collaboration in January last year, with the aim of boosting Houston’s plastics recycling rate by promoting implementation of mechanical and advanced recycling technologies. The city is part of Cyclyx’s mission to raise the recyclability from 10% to 90%.

The consortium had earlier launched the recycling expansion program, by expanding collection to nearly all plastics in Kingwood, Texas community in December 2022. The program launched on 10th December, 2022, had collected 3,900 pounds of plastic waste within a week.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner noted that the partnership will help in moving towards a circular economy in addition to reducing the impact of plastic waste on its communities.
