City of West Chicago to Host Paper Shredding & Medical Disposal Event


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of West Chicago announced that it will host the annual drive-through Paper Shred and Medical Disposal Event on Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the METRA Parking Lot at 508 Main Street.

The event, organized in partnership with the City’s Environmental Commission, SCARCE, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, and DuPage County, will be free for residents and local businesses.

Each participant is allowed to bring up to 10 standard o­ffice-sized boxes of documents. The documents may also be brought in plastic bags. However, there will be no facility for onsite disposal of bags and boxes. All hard items must be removed. Meantime, staples and paper clips need not be removed. The paper shredding services will be provided by Accurate Document Destruction.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Department will accept on-site expired or unused medications and vitamins, medical sharps including syringes, epi-pens, lancets, and needles as well as inhaler canisters. All pills and ointments must be placed in a zip-lock bag. All sharps must be placed in a sealed thick plastic container.

The event will also accept additional items such as used American flags, eye glasses, and hearing aids.
