Berkley City to Host Electronic Recycling and Shredding Event

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Berkley City announced plans to host its annual electronics recycling and paper shredding event for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement by the City’s Department of Public Works stated that the event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 20, 10 AM to 2 PM in the parking lot outside of the Berkley Parks and Recreation building at 2400 Robina Ave. The event, which is being held in partnership with the Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (SOCRRA), will provide residents with an opportunity to get rid of their old electronic items and sensitive documents.

The items accepted include TVs, computers, cell phones and DVD players, and Styrofoam objects. Other accepted items include glass bottles and jars, plastic containers and metal cans, in addition to paper for shredding. However, the event will not accept large appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers and ranges as well as household hazardous waste, said Public Works press release.

The recycling program will remain as an annual event unless huge number of people turn out in the May 20 event, which in turn may force the City to change its plans and organize more number of such events.
