Red Oak Council Explores Curbside Trash and Recycling Services

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Red Oak city officials announced that the Council is currently exploring curbside trash and recycling services.

The recent Council meeting had taken a decision to approve renewal of recycling services with Batten Sanitation through June 30, as per existing rate. Also, the Council discussed the possibility of preparing a request for proposals (RPF) for municipal curbside trash and/or recycling services. The current recycling services will go up $2,000 per month starting 1st July.

Batten Sanitation is responsible for collection of trash from over 2,600 homes and businesses in Red Oak. It also hauls recycled materials from the large containers in town to the recycling facility at the Page County Landfill roughly five times per week. However, it could take several more years to adjust to a curbside service, said Lynette Bruce, Vice President, Batten Sanitation.

The rise in cost for city is partly on account of new additional $100 fee on all of their loads to the landfill.

Batten Sanitation noted that it would be difficult for Batten to compete in prices with large corporates and urged the Council to take more time in arriving at a final decision. It is one of the few companies currently offering trash collection services in Red Oak.
