Recycling to Help Extend the Life of Plainview Landfill

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City urged residents to drop off their recyclables at the Plainview Recycle Center. By doing so, it intends to extend the life of Plainview Landfill, authorities noted.

According to Brocke Lively, superintendent of solid waste management for the city, the centre looks forward to recycle items collected during the holiday gatherings, especially items such as plastic juice jugs, soda bottles, laundry soap containers and cardboard. However, the centre is not capable of handling certain items such as plastic cutlery and paper plates.

The residents could take the recyclables to the centre located at 1018 E. 4th Street. However, the post-holiday waste could be recycled by dropping the items in the blue receptacles around the city.

The Plainview City Council had recently reached an agreement with professional service provider Parkhill. The landfill cell currently in use is expected to be full by August next year. Parkhill has been selected to provide survey, design, bidding, construction and administration services towards expansion of the landfill by a 10-acre cell for a contract amount of approximately $302,000. The overall landfill expansion project is estimated to cost around $1.6 million, the Council noted.
