The program targets to boost investment in recycling education and improvement of recycling drop-off locations. The funds will be mainly used to educate residents on the importance of recycling. This will help to reduce the amount of trash that enters recycling system and enable recovery of more materials in Ohio, said Nichole Lemin, Chief of the Division of Materials and Waste Management at the Ohio EPA.

The project is expected to create positive impact in over 190,000 households across the Ohio State.

The various counties plans to implement local projects aimed at boosting recyclable material quality, reducing contamination and expanding drop-off recycling programs. For instance, Mahoning County plans to use the grant money to educate the public and purchase security cameras to be installed at 28 drop-off locations. In addition to this the county also plans to purchase AI-enabled cameras to be placed inside dumpsters to identity whether materials are recyclable or not.
