Mescota County Announced Recycling Collaboration with Isabella County


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Mescota County will collaborate with Isabella County in developing a materials management plan.

The Michigan Legislature had recently passed a new policy aimed at revamping solid waste management. The law, which is go into effect by end-March this year, will lift the state’s recycling rate from the current level of 19% to 30% by 2029, by increasingly focusing on recycling. Accordingly counties are granted three years to create and implement material management plans.

The Mescoata County board of commissioners approved a letter of intent to collaborate with Isabella County towards setting up a multi-jurisdictional recycling program. It must be noted that Isabella County has been offering other jurisdictions an opportunity to collaborate with them to create a plan, by which residents are offered state-of-the-art recycling services.

The collaboration between the two counties is likely to receive incentives from state authorities. The allocation for a county towards writing a materials management plan is fixed at $60,000 per annum. In addition, counties that participate in a regional planning group are eligible to receive extra amount of $10,000. Additionally, counties will be given 50 cents per capita up to $300,000 for the initial three year period.
