Jefferson Parish Approved New Recycling Contract with Ramelli Waste

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Jefferson Parish Council approved new recycling contract with Ramelli Waste LLC. The new contract is towards providing weekly recycling pickup services for unincorporated Jefferson Parish and Lafitte.

The Council approved the bid by Ramelli Waste, which was the less expensive of the two bids it received. The other bid was from Waste Connections. Ramelli’s bid proposed weekly recycling pickup fee for residents at $4.49 per month, whereas the bid by Waste Connections stood higher at $7.47 per month. Including recycling fees, residents will have to pay nearly $10 more per month for trash and recycling services.

The new contract was approved by a 5-2 vote during the Council meeting. The only Council members to vote against the proposal for new recycling contract were Deano Bonano and Scott Walker.

Ramelli promised that a staff employee will be entrusted with exploring opportunities for a grant to offset costs and launch an education campaign about recyclable materials, similar to the one it launched in Kenner recently.

It must be noted that Jefferson Parish residents are already notified about a hike in water and sewage fees next year, which is being announced in order to cover the additional costs incurred by previously announced infrastructure upgrades over the upcoming years.
