Danvers to Switch to Automated Trash and Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Town of Danvers in Essex County, Massachusetts will move to new automated trash and recycling program starting this September. The move is aimed at reducing waste and maximizing efficiency.

The trucks to collect trash and recycling will have mechanical arm to lift and empty customized carts. The hoisting and dumping of trash and recycling cans will no longer be done manually. This will boost safety of workers and ensure timely completion of collection routes, in addition to reducing costs.

According to officials, standardized carts will be delivered to residents at no cost including a 96-gallon recycling cart and a 64-gallon trash cart. Also, residents can purchase additional refuse carts, if needed. There will be no change in pickup days. However, recycling will be collected only every other week. The recycling collection schedule will be notified to residents prior to the scheduled rollout in September.

The town will continue to support a Bulky Item Collection sticker program. There will be no change in leaf and yard waste collection schedule. Yard waste will be collected curbside 11 weeks out of the calendar year, and 1 additional Christmas tree collection in January. Also, residents can continue drop off at the Transfer Station.
