City of Long Beach to Construct Organics Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The City of Long Beach has entered into final stages of negotiations with Bioenergy Devco on setting up an organics recycling facility, which will convert food waste into an organic soil amendment and renewable natural gas. The new facility will be constructed on the former Southeast Resource Recovery Facility (SERRF) site.

The facility will employ Bioenergy Devco's innovative anaerobic digestion technology, which in turn will prevent food scraps and other organics from being disposed of in landfills. Moreover, it will help Long Beach in advancing its sustainability goals by reducing greenhouse gases. The project is expected to create local jobs and drive Long Beach’s economic growth.

The anaerobic digestion technology will generate biogas from organic waste streams, which will then be cleaned to high quality renewable natural gas. Upon completion, the facility will have capacity to process up to 314,000 tons of organic material per year. It will eliminate the release of over 47,545 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere.

Commenting on the collaboration, Shawn Kreloff, CEO of Bioenergy Devco noted that the company is proud to partner with the City of Long Beach on the advanced organic processing facility.
