California has been sued by 17 U.S. states, which are seeking to undo a new state law designed to limit ?the use of single-use plastic and promote recycling.
The recycling initiative is supported through a partnership between the Livingston County Drain Commissioner–Solid Waste Program and the Livingston County Board of Commissioners.
The settlement relates to operations conducted between 2015 and 2020 by Stericycle’s former Environmental Solutions division, which managed the collection, transportation, and disposal of regulated waste.
The plant has the potential to produce up to 80 million pounds of products every year while recycling approximately 10 million pounds of plastic per annum.
As part of the deal, Republic Services will acquire a TD*X-owned thermal desorption facility located in Robstown, Texas, which is co-located with the company’s hazardous waste operation in the region.
The partnership highlights the importance of growing cooperation between local governments by using shared resources and infrastructure to deliver improved waste management and recycling services.
