SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Registration has opened for an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal event scheduled for July 25, 2026, in Nassau. The proposed event offers residents a free and environmentally responsible way to dispose of hazardous household materials that are not generally accepted by regular garbage collection services.

The collection event will take place at the Town of Schodack Highway Garage and is available exclusively to residents of participating municipalities- Towns of Schodack, Nassau, North Greenbush, Sand Lake, Poestenkill, and Bethlehem, along with the Cities of Rensselaer and Troy.

Authorities noted that advance registration is mandatory for residents wishing to participate in the event. Also, the HHW collection program will not accept electronics, tires, or documents for shredding.

The program also offers business owners an opportunity to dispose of hazardous materials through appointments arranged directly with the event vendor. However, commercial participants will be required to pay applicable disposal fees.

The region’s HHW disposal initiative includes four collection events through 2026. The July event, is part of this initive, which targets to reduce environmental risks associated with improper disposal of hazardous materials
