SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Compared to the previous plans, Vermont's new solid waste plan is thought to be more thorough and proactive. The Agency must revise the plan every five years in accordance with state law.
Guidelines for waste management operations during the five-year period from 2025 to 2029 are provided by the recently announced 2024 Vermont Materials Management Plan.

The Plan aims to increase efforts to reduce disposal and maximize waste reduction. It seeks to lessen the amount of toxic products used and the toxicity of waste, while also encouraging sustainable materials management. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through improved materials management and making waste management programs more accessible are the other objectives.
Following two years of floods, Josh Kelly, DEC Solid Waste Program Manager, says the Department has established new objectives related to disaster preparedness and response. According to him, the parts that relate waste management to equity and climate change are also recent additions.
The significance of public awareness and outreach is emphasized in the new plan. Web-based materials on improved waste management will be made available to the general population. The strategy emphasizes the necessity of establishing links with a range of establishments, such as libraries, schools, enterprises, transfer stations, and municipal offices.
