Pumpkin recycling locations available across the valley

As the Halloween season slowly winds down this weekend, so do the lives of all the pumpkins that were carved throughout the month.

Instead of throwing the saggy-skinned jack-o-lanterns away, consider recycling the decorations to a local livestock company that uses them to feed their herds.

Las Vegas Livestock will set up their recycling containers for the second year and will use the remains collected to feed pigs and chickens raised near Apex, North of the Las Vegas Valley.

Recycling drop-off sites will be available starting October 29 through November 5, 24 hours a day.

Locations offering pumpkin disposal containers include

  • JW Marriott Las Vegas (near the marquee): 221 N. Rampart Blvd. (N. Rampart Blvd. & Canyon Run Dr. off Summerlin Pkwy.)
  • UNLV Rebel Recycling Center: SE corner of Flamingo and Swenson (behind the solar dishes)
  • Master Gardener Orchard -University of Nevada: Cooperative Extension, 4600 Horse Dr.
  • Gilcrease Orchard: 7800 N. Tenaya Way

These containers are solely meant for edible items such as pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. No trash, wax, or plastic should be disposed in the containers.
