Ohio EPA Grant Money to Fund Recycling and Litter Prevention Efforts


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded grant money of overt $600,000 towards funding recycling, litter prevention and scrap tire recycling programs. The beneficiaries will be local governments, businesses and non-profit organizations across southeast Ohio.

Accordingly, Guernsey County Community Development Corporation (CDC) will receive $26,300 to fund its litter cleanup events and tire amnesty events. In the past years too, CDC has utilised the grant money for the Keep Guernsey County Beautiful Litter Cleanup and Tire Amnesty Program. The volunteers have so far cleaned up 6,166 bags of litter, 441.24 tons of illegally dumped material, 53,107 tires, 22 illegal dumpsites, it noted.

This year’s event will be held on Sept. 27 and 28 9 AM to 1 PM at four collection locations in Guernsey County. One location would be the CDC maintenance shop at 2000 North Ave. in Cambridge. The other three locations will be announced at a later date.

Each location will have five litter dumpsters and one tire trailer. Residents will be allowed to dispose of their tyres at a rate of $2 per tire for non-commercial tires and $3 per tire for commercial and farm tires.

A grant of $100,000 to the Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District will help it purchase new recycling equipment.
