One among the recipients was the Marshall County Solid Waste District, which was awarded $18,844. The grant will fund the environmental education campaign entitled “Transform Tomorrow When You Recycle”, which targets to reduce the number of recyclables going to landfill from Marshall County.

The campaign, which will begin in January 2024 and continue through April, will make use of various tools such as billboards, direct mailers, educational newsletters, radio appearances, and social media to educate residents on what can be put in recycling bins.

The campaign will provide necessary information to clear up the confusion and reduce contamination. As part of the campaign, tours to materials recovery facility and a local landfill will be arranged.

Marianne Peters, District Director noted that increased recycling will lead to more jobs, lower carbon emissions and improved air quality. The grant funding will boost recycling opportunities by incorporating new technological capabilities and providing improved recycling infrastructure, Peters added.
