Fayette County Added Foam Recycling Services to its Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Fayette County Recycling Program announced addition of foam recycling services to its program.

The decision follows persistent requests by residents to accept foam products at the County Recycling Convenience Center located along 105 Romeo Lane in Uniontown. The County administration noted that foam products will be accepted only at the Convenience Center and urged residents not to place them in green recycling bins.

The County noted that the Center will accept shipping and food-grade foam products of any colour. The residents are required to ensure that the foam polystyrene materials brought to the Center are clean and empty. All tapes and labels must be removed. The accepted items include cups, takeout containers, meat trays, egg cartons, foam coolers and foam packaging from furniture and electronics.

Sheila Shea, recycling coordinator and stormwater manager said that a new foam densifier has been purchased from Foam Cycle with the help of a $49,000 grant from Foam Recycling Coalition. The densifier is expected to make the foam recycling process extremely simple and convenient. It will densify the foam material into a compacted material, which in turn will be sold to end users for recyclers.
