Coventry's Super Recycling Facility with AI Technology will Open Next Month

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Coventry's super recycling facility with AI technology is set to open next month. The Sherbourne Resource Park (SRP) plays home to the new facility which will combine the latest in sorting equipment powered by cutting-edge technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, making it one of the most advanced plants of its size in the world.

Coventry City Council has confirmed to CoventryLive that the new Material Recycling Facility (MRF) will open towards the end of next month. In a statement, Councillor Patricia Hetherton cabinet member for city services, said: “The new materials recycling facility is looking great and I’m pleased to say it will open towards the end of next month.

"Not only will it be the best facility of its kind in the country, using the very latest technology, it will also help us to recycle more which is good news for local people and the environment."

Coventry City Council is one of eight local authorities behind the new Material Recycling Facility (MRF) at the back of Coventry & Solihull Waste Disposal Company on London Road. Partners include Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, North Warwickshire Borough Council, Rugby Borough Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Walsall Council, Warwick District Council, and Stratford District Council.

It was originally estimated to cost £34.5m and then it was revealed that this rose by more than £20m and its final cost is believed to be around £60m. The facility will have the capacity to handle a huge 175,000 tonnes of dry mixed recycling from kerbside collections annually.
