City of Monroe Presented Final Details of New Recycling Contract

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The final details regarding the City of Monroe’s new recycling contract with Stevens Disposal & Recycling were presented to the city council. The contract is due to come into effect on 3rd July, 2023.

The new contractor will start dropping off carts to residents for both refuse and recycling from the week starting June 26th. One 96-gallon refuse cart and one 96-gallon recycling cart will be given to single as well as multifamily residential properties, which is larger than the current 64-gallon recycling cart provided by WM. Also, single family residences are allowed to request for an additional 96-gallon cart at no charge from the beginning of August this year.

The city will also expand its use of communal dumpsters between Monroe and Macomb streets.

Stevens Disposal & Recycling said that it will pick up only items placed in the carts, which essentially means that loose bags of trash and recycling will not be collected, as is done by WM currently. However, there will be a grace period until end-August to help residents adjust with the change.

Meantime, WM will start to collect its 64-gallon recycling carts the week of June 26. The residents are required to leave the carts out for collection starting that week.
