Carroll County Announced Significant Upgrade to Recycling Capacities

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Carroll County Solid Waste Management has implemented significant upgrade to recycling capacities with the help of grants received from various agencies. This is aimed at significantly reducing the amount of materials that end up in landfills.

The acquisition of the new baler and conveyor has resulted in the center becoming capable of recycling more categories of plastics. Prior to the installation of the new baler, the center could recycle only types #1 and #2 plastics. With the new baler, the center could now recycle #5 plastics as well, thus preventing those plastics from going to landfill.

The County Solid Waste Commission had received a grant amounting to $55,000 from the Recycling Partnership. Out of this, $45,000 was for the baler itself, while the remaining $10,000 was towards providing recycling education to the common public. The Department of Natural Resources too had offered $25,000 grant for the baler.

The plastics that reach the recycling center will be first sorted, baled and stored, to be sold and shipped to other companies, where they will be reprocessed to manufacture new items. The recycling centres will reduce the environmental impacts of plastic use, apart from preventing them from filling up landfills.
