WM Canada Advances Edmonton Recycling Facility Construction for 2027 Launch

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): WM Canada is advancing construction of a major new preconditioning recycling facility in Edmonton, Alberta. The facility, scheduled to begin operations in early 2027, is expected to play a key role in modernizing the province’s recycling infrastructure.

The plant will feature advanced automation and optical sorting technologies. The plant is projected to enhance material recovery efficiency and support evolving recycling programs across Northern Alberta.

According to Tracy Black, President of WM Canada, the investment reflects the company’s commitment to building stronger local recycling systems while advancing a circular economy.

The site will feature bag openers, ballistic screens, sizing screens, and optical sorting systems that use near-infrared technology to identify and separate packaging and paper products with greater precision.

The project includes expansion and modernization of an existing WM-owned property. Approximately 80 full-time construction jobs are expected through 2026 and early 2027.

WM Canada will own and operate the facility in partnership with Circular Materials under Alberta’s extended producer responsibility framework.
