SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Residents of Swampscott and neighboring communities will have an opportunity to recycle unwanted electronics and household items during a special collection event scheduled for August 1 at St. John the Evangelist Church.

The one-day event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the church parking lot on Humphrey Street. Organizers will accept a wide variety of electronic devices, household appliances, battery-powered products, and reusable bicycles.

Recycling fees will depend on the type and size of the item. Smaller electronics such as laptops, computer towers, DVD players, speakers, cameras, and power tools will generally carry a $5 fee. Mid-sized appliances, including vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, air fryers, sewing machines, and toaster ovens, will cost $10 each.

Larger items, including microwave ovens, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, computer monitors, and outdoor equipment, will have fees ranging from $20 to $40, with larger televisions and projection TVs attracting the highest charges.

Meanwhile, several items, including cell phones, charging cables, keyboards, tablets, reusable bicycles, vehicle batteries, DVDs, and gaming accessories, will be accepted free of charge.

Cash payments are preferred, while checks will be accepted for transactions above $30.
