SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services is accelerating its investment in organics processing infrastructure across key U.S. markets, driven by stricter regulations and growing customer demand for sustainable waste solutions. The company is set to open a new organic waste transfer station in Petaluma, California, marking another milestone in its expanding portfolio.
In 2026, Republic Services plans to add 355,000 tons of annual organics processing capacity, significantly boosting its existing 1.1 million tons reported in 2025. The expansion includes new and upgraded facilities in California and Colorado.

Earlier this month, the company launched a preprocessing and transfer facility at the Foothills Landfill near Denver. The site supports compliance with the city’s Waste No More ordinance, which mandates organic waste collection services for multifamily residences and food waste generators. Backed by the Colorado Circular Communities Enterprise, the facility can handle up to 70 tons per hour.
Republic Services is also scaling operations in California, including a major composting facility in San Bernardino designed to process 300,000 tons annually. With additional expansion projects underway, the company aims to strengthen its leadership in organics recycling and meet the growing shift toward waste diversion and composting solutions.
