Wayne County to Hold Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Wayne County will hold a household hazardous waste collection event for its residents. The event will be held on June 17, 2023 8 AM to 1 PM at Henry Ford College, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn. The free event will offer the County residents to safely dispose of items that most commonly are found to contain harmful chemicals or unsafe metals.

The event will accept items such as household paints, stains, and dyes, floor wax, floor care products, and carpet cleaner, furniture polish, bathroom cleaners, stain removers, and solvents, pharmaceutical waste, nail polish and glue, fertilizer, lawn and garden chemicals, and pesticides, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, and propane tanks, automotive batteries and dry cell batteries and fluorescent bulbs, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, mercury thermometers, thermostats, and elemental mercury.

The non-acceptable items include commercial waste, industrial waste, radioactive materials, explosives, ammunition, 55 gallon drums, household trash, refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances, tires, yard waste, roofing shingles and concrete.

The City of Dearborn plans to hold a separate event for tire disposal, the date and venue of which will be informed later.
