Warren Parks and Recreation in Kentucky Adds Mobile Recycling Trailer

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A community has more opportunities to recycle thanks to a partnership involving Warren County Parks and Recreation and a newly-located aluminum extruder. A mobile recycling trailer will be circulating among the parks in the county park system, with four parks acting as designated drop-off points for empty beverage cans and other aluminum products.

The county collaborated with AKFA Aluminum Solutions and the Metals Innovation Initiative on the project, buying the recycling trailer with about $11,000 won from a grant through Kentucky Pride and matching funds from AKFA, a Uzbekistani company that specializes in producing aluminum and plastic profiles, windows, construction materials and heating systems.

AKFA broke ground earlier this year on its first U.S. facility, located in the Kentucky Transpark, and the company often uses recycled aluminum in the manufacture of its products. “With this brand new trailer, through the support of AKFA, we’re going to be offering aluminum recycling on a weekly basis throughout our regional park system,” said Chris Kummer, Warren County Parks and Rec director.
