U.S. EPA's Waste-Related Programs to Receive Huge Funding Boost

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The fiscal 2025 budget proposal released by the Biden administration calls for significant increase in the U.S. EPA’s budget, in comparison with 2023. Furthermore, it proposes additional funding for various waste-related initiatives. The EPA’s budget for the year stands at around $11 billion, significantly higher from $9.2 billion approved by Congress.

In 2023, the EPA had funded various waste and recycling projects across the country. Majority of these projects, funded by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act, are likely to roll over into the new year kicking off this October. Also, investments in various cleanup initiatives will continue.

Apart from increased EPA funding, it also proposes other budget items relevant to the waste and recycling sector. Accordingly, the budget would allocate funds for boosting PFAS-related actions. It proposes additional funding in support of compliance monitoring initiatives. In addition to investing $1.5 billion across various EPA programs, the budget would also fund the newly established Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights.

The fact sheet accompanying the budget release says that since Biden assumed office, the country’s economy has added approximately 15 million jobs.
