Union County Expanded Textile Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Union County Board of County Commissioners announced expansion of its textile recycling program. The County will now partner with the Township of Cranford, in addition to municipalities of Plainfield, Summit, and Scotch Plains. The move is aimed at reducing clothing and textile waste.

More than 23,000 pounds of textiles have been effectively removed from the waste stream by Union County, Helpsy, and partner communities since the program's inception.

Residents can drop off their unwanted clothing, shoes, accessories, and household linens in any condition as part of the program, which is being carried out in collaboration with Helpsy, a leading sustainable clothing and textile recycling firm.

The Cranford Conservation Center, situated between Orange Avenue and Cranford Avenue at 210 Birchwood Avenue, will be the new drop-off site. The center's hours of operation are 9:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. on Wednesdays, 9:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9:20 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. on Sundays.

The chairwoman of the Union County Commissioners, Lourdes M. Leon, stated that the textile recycling program, which was started a few months ago, has been instrumental in drastically lowering this type of waste in the county. By working with Cranford, it hopes to increase the number of drop-off points in its network, making it easier and more convenient for locals to take part in the initiative.
