Rome to Hold Free Paint Recycling Event on Sept. 12

Rome residents will have another chance to safely dispose of old paint at a free collection event in the city.

The City of Rome is partnering with GreenSheen to host the event on Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Yard, 132 Race St. Residents can find more recycling event coverage and disposal guidance on the RecyclingMonster homepage.

How the Collection Event Works

GreenSheen staff and volunteers will help unload materials while attendees remain in their vehicles.

The event is open to all City of Rome residents. Organizers said it gives people a safe and environmentally friendly way to get rid of unused or unwanted paint products.

Paint Products Accepted at the Event

The following items will be accepted:

  • Interior and exterior architectural paints (latex, acrylic, water-based, oil-based and enamel)
  • Deck coatings and floor paints
  • Primers, sealers and undercoaters
  • Stains, shellacs, lacquers, varnishes and urethanes
  • Waterproofing concrete, masonry and wood sealers (non-tar or bitumen)
  • Metal coatings and rust preventatives
  • Field and lawn paints

Containers must be five gallons or smaller, non-leaking, and have original labels.

Items Not Accepted

Items not accepted include paint thinners, spirits, solvents, aerosol coatings, auto and marine paints, art and craft paints, caulking compounds, glues, adhesives, paint additives or tints, roof patch, deck cleaners, traffic and road marking paints, asphalt or tar and bitumen-based products, and two-component coatings.
