Pensacola to Open New Staffed Drop-Off Recycling Location

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Penascola announced opening of a new staffed recycling drop-off center. The new drop off center at 2759 N. Palafox St. will be open every Saturday beginning 4th November, 2023 from 7 AM to 3 PM.

The move comes after the city’s decision to end its curbside recycling program during the last week of September this year, following extremely high recycling contamination rates and hike in fees by the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority.

During the weekly press conference held Tuesday, D.C. Reeves, Mayor of Penascola said that the city staff will be present at the drop-off facility to assist people in getting their recyclables unloaded from their vehicles and to answer queries about what items will be accepted for recycling. The staffed drop-off location will help to ensure low contamination rates, Reeves added.

Initially, the drop-off location will accept four types of recycling- steel and aluminum cans, #1 plastics, #2 plastics and clean, broken-down cardboard boxes. The location may bring about changes in the accepted list of items. Also, it may implement stricter rules on items accepted for recycling.

Going forward, the city will implement a more consolidated approach to recyclables that enjoy good market.
