Muncie, Indiana to Roll Out New Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): According to Muncie Sanitary District (MSD) officials, the city’s new recycling program is ready to kick off this Monday, 31st July, 2023.

The city plans to distribute more than 5,000 blue toters to homes across the city. The 96-gallon new blue toters will be in replacement of blue bags, which the residents have been using to discard their recyclables. Meantime, the residents will continue to utilize green toters for trash disposal.

The residents will not have to pay extra for being part of the new program, which is being carried out with the aim of boosting the city’s recycling rate to 50%, when compared with the current levels of 32%-36%.

The MSD had purchased a total of 7,000 blue toters, with the help of grant money from the Recycling Market Development Board.

The first 7,000 households who register for the new recycling program will receive a free 10-gallon kitchen container. In addition, they will be given access to a free paper shredding at East Central Recycling.

The new blue recycling toters will accept clean and empty aluminum, tin, and steel cans; glass bottles and jars; mixed paper, magazines, paperboard, cardboard; plastic bottles, jugs, and jars. The new toters will make it easier for residents to recycle cardboard boxes, which were difficult to be placed in blue bags.
