Minnesota County Declared Guidelines to Reduce Holiday Waste

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Carver County Department of Environmental Services has urged its residents to plan in advance, so as to reduce waste during this holiday season. It must be noted that cardboard and co-mingled recycling volumes had witnessed a surge by approximately 20% during the last holiday season.

Dustin Heidinger, senior environmentalist with the Department of Environmental Services reminded residents that Carver County Environmental Center accepts a wide range of materials. Some of the items such as cartridges, cooking oil, household hazardous waste, general recyclables and plastic bags can be dropped for free, other such as appliances, bicycles, fluorescent bulbs etc., are accepted for a small fee.

The surge in online shopping habits has led to generation of huge volumes of Amazon boxers and cardboard boxes. The County urged residents to shop local, in order to get rid of increasing packaging waste.

The Environmental Center recycles Christmas lights, cords and other holiday electronics that used to decorate trees and homes. The ending up of these items in landfills poses serious threats as many of them come with embedded battery devices and lithium batteries, it warned. Moreover, it called upon residents to make good decisions while buying items and disposing of them.
