SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Public Works Department of Leesburg will host a free community document shredding event on May 30 at Heritage High School to help residents securely dispose of sensitive paperwork and reduce identity theft risks.
The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or until shredding trucks reach capacity. Town residents may bring up to three boxes or bags of personal documents, each no larger than a standard file storage box. Business-related documents will not be accepted, even if delivered by local residents.
Accepted materials include paperwork containing sensitive details such as account numbers, passwords, signatures, social security numbers, and financial records. Prohibited items include binders, plastic materials, CDs, DVDs, batteries, electronics, metal fasteners, and hazardous materials.
Documents will be shredded on-site in secure mobile shredding vehicles. If trucks reach capacity, materials may be securely transported off-site for destruction at the vendor’s facility.
The event also supports Loudoun Hunger Relief, with organizers collecting non-perishable food donations for local families in need.
Town officials said the twice-yearly event promotes recycling awareness while offering residents a practical way to protect personal information from theft and fraud through safe document disposal.
