Lee Township to Reopen Dump After Two Years Shutdown

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Lee Township Board of Trustees, in a unanimous vote, has decided to reopen the Lee Township Waste Station facility on Saturday, April 29. The facility, now renamed to Lee Township Refuse and Recycling Center, will be reopening after two years of shutdown on account of financial constraints.

Commenting on the decision, Doug Kruger, Lee Township Supervisor noted that its been about two years since the services were disrupted at the facility. There has been a lot of positive interaction from the residents, who are excited about the decision to reopen the dump, he added.

The Township had closed the facility following a decision taken in early March 2021 and had decided to switch to a curbside refuse pickup services in partnership with Republic Services. The Board of Trustees had blamed rising operational costs at the time of closure of the facility.

The new center will operate on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. In addition to the dump facility, the Township will continue with the curbside pickup services offered by Republic Services.

The facility will be managed by two public works employees, who will be paid as township employees. The residents will be provided with an ID card, which in turn will make them eligible to use the facility.
