SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) of Placer County, California announced that it will break ground on a $120 million improvement project for the C&D facility on 13th April, 2023.
The WPWMA’s C&D facility has a current processing capacity of around 75,000 tons of materials per annum. The facility improvements are aimed at significantly boosting the capacity, as the WPWMA expects Placer County residents and businesses to dispose of approximately 115,000 tons of C&D debris this fiscal year. It must be noted that the facility recycles a wide range of materials including lumber, metals, carpet, drywall, concrete and other C&D materials.

The upgraded C&D facilities will have a capacity to process 238,000 tons of waste per year and achieve a diversion rate of 65%.
The design and construction of the upgraded C&D facilities will be carried out with the help of FCC Environmental Services LLC and Cambridge Cos. Inc.
According to Ken Grehm, Executive Director, WPWMA noted that the facility improvements will ensure its member agencies maintain local control, stable rates. This is the first phase of the project, which reflects the tremendous growth in the region. This will help WPWMA to prepare itself to meet the region’s rising recycling needs, Grehm added.
