The County DPW noted that it has found that items which could have been placed in curbside recycling bins regularly ends up in the trash. The highlighted items in the guide include paper cups, soup cartons, metals cans and foils, cider jugs, certain rigid plastic and cardboard boxes among others. In addition, the guide also features disposal and recycling tips for certain materials that can’t go in a recycling bin, such as leaves, pool chemicals and clothing materials.

The guide is being released as part of efforts by the County to reduce landfill waste by 90% by the end of 2030.

Micah Herrboldt, DPW waste reduction educator noted that the fall season and fall holidays often generates a lot of waste. Hence it is important that the Kent County residents have adequate knowledge about what can be recycled. Furthermore, Herrboldt praised the community’s commitment to recycling and reducing waste.
