Augusta, Ga. to Hear Recycling Plan Addressing Collection Issues Left by Hurricane

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster):  Since a hurricane blew through Augusta, Ga., the city has been sending recycling with trash to the landfill, but a new recycling contract could be on the way.

Following the hurricane, residents have seen their recycling picked up with their waste each week, on the same truck going to the same location. Commissioner Catherine Rice has had enough.

“There’s a lot of people out there who do want to recycle, they do believe in recyclin,g I believe in recycling, but I do know it’s not fair that I’m sitting there having to put recycling in the can and I know it’s not going to recycling,” said Rice.

Hameed Malik, Augusta’s Engineering Director, has said that a new trash contract is in the works with recycling options.

“My goal is to bring the new recommendation to this body May 27th meeting, and that will address the recycling,” said Director Hameed Malik.
