Hawthorne Launched New Plastic Film Recycling Program

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster):  The borough's recycling center in Hawthorne, New Jersey, has launched a plastic film recycling program. At last week's Borough Council meeting, Councilwoman Rayna Laiosa made the announcement. More material recycling will be possible as a result.

The service will be free, but only available to Hawthorne residents, according to a news statement issued by the Hawthorne Department of Public Works (DPW). The drop-off location will be open seven days a week and be permanent. With this program, the DPW hopes to raise its yearly recycling total.

Produce bags, store bags, and ice bags will all be accepted by the program. Cereal box liners, case overwrap, Ziploc and other re-closable bags, and pantry bread bags are all appropriate. Newspaper sleeves, bubble wrap, and plastic e-commerce mailers are also acceptable. Labels, tape, and adhesive strips should be taken off before residents bring items to the center.

Pre-washed salad mix bags, shiny, crinkly films like floral wrap, frozen food bags, candy bar wrappers, and degradable/compostable bags or film packaging are all prohibited from the program.

Behind the Wagaraw Baseball/Softball Fields, at 289 Wagaraw Road 07506, is the Borough Recycling Center.
