Covington Urges Residents to Participate in Efforts to Boost Recycling

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Covington recorded high recycling volumes during the past several years. The figures were disclosed on the sidelines of National Recycling Day celebrations held last week. However, the City officials urged residents to be part of City’s efforts to boost the recycling volumes.

According to Sheila Fields, Covington’s Solid Waste and Recycling Manager, the city aims to not only increase the recycling participation, but also provide better guidance to residents in order to ensure that they recycle in the right manner.

To begin with, residents are being provided an opportunity to get a free wheeled cart, which they can fill up and roll out alongside their trash cart, to be picked up by Rumpke Trash & Recycling along with weekly trash pickup. The Solid Waste and Recycling Division will continue to mail pamphlets containing recycling guidance. They can also get online information about recycling from city’s website.

As per data, nearly 61% of Covington households, 1–4 units, participate in the City’s curbside recycling program. Over the past four fiscal years, the city has reported recycling volumes of anywhere between 2,300 tons and 2,450 tons.

Recycling is only a part of the whole effort. The other four of the “five Rs”- refuse, reduce, reuse and repurpose too are equally important, it noted.
