The accepted items include electronics, paper and foam. The paper for recycling must be loose and dry, but staples and paper clips need not be removed. The foam must be clean with no tape and stickers.
The event will not accept fast food containers, packing peanuts, foam containers, thermostats and mercury switches, equipment containing biological waste, chemicals, oils, or fluids, radioactive material, asbestos or PCBs, equipment with tanks or sealed units, light bulbs and large appliances.
Commenting on the event, Sheila Fields, the city’s solid waste and recycling manager noted that it makes it easy for residents to get rid of difficult-to-dispose of items, while keeping toxic materials out of landfills.
The last year’s event collected 7,649 pounds of e-waste, 10,000 pounds of paper, and 92 pounds of Styrofoam.
