The provincial pilot project announced by the Alberta Recycling Management Authority in 2020 has resulted in the Facility accepting additional varieties of electronics for recycling. The Facility now accepts a wide range of materials including small appliances, audio visual equipment, telecom equipment, power and air tools, electronic games, toys and music equipment, and solar panels. This is in addition to televisions, computer monitors CPUs, printers/printer combinations, computer-related items, laptop and notebook computers, and tablets.
Although the Waste Management Facility has been accepting electronics for several years, there has been a notable increase in the volume of recycling drop off since the launch of the provincial pilot.
Marilyn Moore, City’s Waste Diversion Specialist reminded that the electronics that are put into blue recycling bin will straightaway go to landfills. Moore encouraged residents to drop off electronics items at the Waste Management Facility, rather than being landfilled.
