SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A new regulation is set to free the Town of Clifton Park from charges for electronics recycling services being offered free of cost to its residents for several years now.
According to Phil Barrett, Town Supervisor, the town will no longer be charges for e-waste recycling services provided to its residents. The key change in the structure of recycling old electronics has already come into effect starting the New Year, which avoids any exchange of money. The town is committed to continue offering a convenient location for Cliffton Park residents to drop off their electronics.
The town had entered into a contract with EWASTE+ towards handling the collection of used electronics at the permanent recycling site at the town’s Transfer Station, by which the NY-based commercial and residential electronics recycling company will be paid 35 cents per pound of e-waste handled. As per new regulations, there will be no cost to the town. Instead, all electronics purchased within the town will have a fee associated with it.
The cost included at the time of purchases is expected to cover the cost of the item to be responsibly recycled at the end of their useful lives. The collected money at the time of purchase will be allocated towards the cost of collecting and disposing of old electronics.
