Oswego County to Open Household Hazardous Waste Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Oswego County Household Hazardous Waste Facility will reopen on Wednesday, May 3. The opening of the facility, located at the Bristol Hill Landfill, 3125 NYS Rte. 3, Volney, will give County residents an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted chemicals, pesticides and other hazardous waste products. It will be open Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m., May through September.

The residents who come to the facility are requested to remain in their vehicles, while solid waste department staff will unload the materials. The entry of children or pets will be strictly prohibited. Michael Lutestanski, operations manager for the Oswego County Solid Waste Department noted that the facility will accept toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive household hazardous waste.

The materials must be in their original containers with the labels on and placed in sturdy cardboard boxes in the back of the vehicle. Also, leaking containers should be wrapped in newspaper and placed in a clear plastic bag.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility has partnered with PaintCare, to recycle leftover latex and oil-based architectural paints, primers, stains, sealers and varnishes.
