MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): Residents of Burien and Normandy Park, Washington, will have an opportunity to recycle a range of household materials during the 2026 Fall Recycling Event on Saturday, September 19.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center, 19010 1st Avenue South, Burien, WA 98148. No vehicles will be admitted after 3 p.m.

Only materials listed by organizers will be accepted. The event is cash only for items carrying a recycling fee.

Electronics, Batteries, Appliances and Scrap Metal Accepted

Accepted household batteries include AAAA, AAA, AA, A, C and D alkaline batteries, button batteries and rechargeable batteries. Lead-acid batteries from cars, trucks, marine applications and motorcycles will also be accepted.

Lithium-ion batteries such as tool and vape batteries are not accepted through the household-battery collection.

Electronics accepted include cell phones, DVD players, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, televisions of all sizes, scanners, tablets, VCRs and computer mice. Printers and copiers cost $5 each.

The appliance and scrap-metal collection will accept household appliances, microwave ovens, auto parts, engines, gas lawnmowers, metal lawn chairs, barbecues, steel, aluminum, brass, copper and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Engines and gas lawnmowers must be drained of oil and gasoline before drop-off.

A $5 cash fee applies to each water heater that still has insulation coating.

Mattresses and CFC Appliances Cost $35 Each

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners containing CFCs will be accepted for $35 each. Refrigerators and freezers cannot be sealed or contain food.

Clean and dry mattresses and box springs of any size will also cost $35 each. Futons, furniture, frames and wet or soiled mattresses will not be accepted.

Porcelain tubs, toilets and sinks cost $25 each. Seats, hardware and base wax rings must be removed before drop-off.

Empty five-gallon propane tanks cost $10 each, while one-gallon tanks cost $2 each.

Passenger and Truck Tire Fees Vary by Size and Rim

Residents may recycle up to six passenger tires measuring 18 inches or smaller free of charge when the tires are off their rims.

Additional passenger tires off the rim cost $3 each. Passenger tires on rims cost $6 each. Large truck tires cost $15 each off the rim and $30 each on the rim. Oversized tires will not be accepted.

Styrofoam Must Be Clean and Dry

The event will accept clean, dry white expanded-polystyrene blocks and packing peanuts of any color. Tape, stickers and labels must be removed.

Foam cushions, hot-tub covers and insulation will not be accepted.

Paper Shredding Limited to Five Boxes Per Vehicle

Confidential paper shredding and recycling will be available with a limit of five file-size boxes, measuring approximately 12 by 12 by 16 inches, or seven paper grocery bags per vehicle. Staples are permitted, but binder clips are not.

Organizers ask participants to remain in their vehicles except while unloading and to pack materials so they can be removed quickly. Flatbed vehicles and dump trucks are not allowed, and organizers reserve the right to refuse oversized, commercial, contaminated, excessive or otherwise unacceptable loads.
