American Battery Technology Company Relocates to Expanded Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) plans to relocate to a 137,000-square-foot facility at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRIC) this year from its current location in downtown Reno.

As per reports, the company has already purchased the facility at TRIC. Also, it has paid $6 million for industrial equipment and $21 million for the recycling facility using fund-raising. A large processing equipment has already started its way to the facility, in order to make it ready for installation and commissioning.

The new TRIC facility will have capacity to process about one-tenth of materials needed per year by the the nearby Tesla Gigafactory for making lithium-ion batteries. The recycling plant will accept fully assembled and electrically charged lithium-ion batteries from vehicles, grid storage systems and consumer electronics as feedstock. It uses automated systems to disassemble the batteries into smaller components and separate the individual components within batteries.

Upon TRIC facility reaching full operations, which is currently projected to happen around summer 2024, ABTC will triple its total workforce from current levels of 50.

Additionally, the company is reportedly working to bring online a battery manufacturing pilot plant in Fernley and a large-scale commercial lithium refinery in Tonopah, which in turn will provide significant boost to its battery recycling capacity.
