Li-Cycle and Kion Group Announced LIB Recycling Partnership


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Leading North American lithium-ion battery recycler, Li-Cycle Holdings Corp. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with the global provider of industrial trucks and supply chain solutions, KION Group towards setting up a global lithium-ion battery recycling partnership. Also, the company revealed plans to build a new lithium-ion battery recycling facility in France.

As per terms of the deal, Li-Cycle will recycle lithium-ion batteries from KION’s global brands using its proprietary and innovative submerged shredding technology. The agreement designates Li-Cycle as KION’s preferred global recycling partner. The initial validity of the agreement will be until 2030, which could be extended further.

Tim Johnston, co-founder and Executive Chair of Li-Cycle noted that the partnership will enable Li-Cycle to support both KION’s recycling needs and its ability to align with the EU’s battery regulations. It intends to build a circular battery supply chain, thereby supporting the clean energy transition.

Meantime, Henry Puhl, chief technology officer of KION said that the collaboration with Li-Cycle will further strengthen its position in the area of sustainability. Furthermore, it is an important step towards the circular economy, he added.
