SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): More varieties of plastic packaging should be captured by the newly renovated WM material recovery facility (MRF) in Germantown, Wisconsin. The corporation had previously decided to invest $1.4 billion between 2022 and 2026, which included the renovations.
The corporation has improved throughput and decreased contamination as a result of the anticipated $39 million renovations. The facility's throughput has improved since it reopened in January of last year. With the modifications, the facility's annual processing capacity has increased by more than 50% to almost 230,000 tons of materials. WM anticipates a significant increase in recycling quantities in the future.

There is now a film extraction system in the facility. Curbside recycling services do not accept plastic bags or other films, but the facility does. Plastic bags and film-type materials make up a large portion of WM's material stream. The film is captured by the facility, but there aren't many end markets for it.
John Schultz claims that the facility's capacity has increased as a result of the improvements, allowing it to collect more plastic No. 4 and No. 5 tubs and lids. The new system is very adaptable and can be expanded further. According to him, the company expects material types to keep changing in the years to come.
