SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Waste Management (WM) of Illinois has unveiled plans for a proposed solid waste transfer and recycling facility in Grayslake. The facility is designed to replace the aging Countryside Landfill, which is expected to close within one or two years. The company officials stated that the new facility is expected to commence its operations around the same time the landfill closes.
The proposal was presented to community members and local officials during a recent public hearing. The session provided further details on the project’s environmental and operational goals.

The proposed Meadowview facility would include a 31,000-square-foot waste transfer station and a 3,500-square-foot recycling center located south of the existing landfill near Route 83 and Buckley Road.
Waste Management estimates average daily volumes at approximately 500 tons. However, the site will have capacity to process double this volume. Additionally, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 17,000 tons.
The recycling center would accept a broad range of household recyclables, including electronics, textiles, shoes, food scraps, cardboard, paper, plastics, glass, and metal cans. In addition, the transfer station would handle municipal solid waste, construction debris, demolition materials, and landscape waste.
